Namer was developed by and is being assembled by the Israeli Ordnance Corps. It has entered service in limited numbers with the Israel Defense Forces since the end of 2008.

The Namer (Leopard) heavy armored personnel carrier is a major element of the IDF modernization plan. The latest design of the Namer is based on the Merkava Mk.4 main battle tank chassis.

The Namer is based on the body of the Merkava 4, and much like a tank, it is capable of maneuvering in very difficult terrain. It has advanced defensive systems, and an internal air-conditioning unit which makes battle in areas contaminated by hazardous materials possible.
