Professor Piot co-discovered the Ebola virus in Zaire in 1976, and led research on AIDS, women’s health, and public health in Africa.
Peter Piot is a Belgian microbiologist who served as executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and under-secretary-general of the United Nations (1995–2008), best known for his coordination of global efforts to control the spread of HIV/AIDS.
