Guyton is located 28 miles (45 km) northwest of downtown Savannah, and is part of the Savannah metropolitan statistical area. While some of the community's early settlers came from the Savannah area, it seems that most came from North and South Carolina.

Arthur Clifton Guyton ( – ) was an American physiologist best known for his studies on cardiovascular physiology and his Textbook of Medical Physiology, which quickly became the standard text on the subject in medical schools.
