The inner object is the one I'm trying to change. If I could scale the blue face smaller, I could get the effect I want. But whenever I try to scale the face, the whole object gets selected and scaled instead. The effect I'm going for is that of a shallow depression that isn't steep. I want the curve to extend further into the object.
I tried your face hosted to unhosted method exactly as you showed in the video. When I place the family in a project, it still hosts to the level I place it on, and I can't move the family instance vertically. Is there another step to your process that makes this work? The orientation in a face based family is based on the host, so if you place the family on a wall in the project then the plan presentation set in the family is the front elevation in the project. It is not that hard to figure out once you get used to it.
