Re: Is activated carbon bad for discus I think a lot of thoughts and dislikes about carbon is the fact that if not changed often enough it supposedly can release what it had trapped at a more concentrated level. I stopped using carbon in tank many years ago and never missed it. I think with planted tanks it will remove needed metal/minerals.
