The dilruba (also spelled dilrupa) [1] is a bowed musical instrument originating in India. It is a type of bowed sitar that's slightly larger than an esraj and has a larger, square resonance box like a sarangi.
Dilruba: Directed by Vishwa Karun. With Satya, Kiran Abbavaram, Dayanand Reddy, John Vijay. After heartbreak, Siddhu moves to Mangalore for engineering. He rescues Anjali from a bad date and they fall in love. Their romance is tested when a dangerous man called Joker confronts Siddhu, leading to an ultimate clash.
While the dilruba has more sympathetic strings and a different body shape to the esraj, they both have 4 main strings. The soundboard is a stretched piece of goatskin, similar to a sarangi.

For the dilruba, one need only slide the fingers up and down along the string in order to produce a meend or any other ornament, where on the sitar one pulls the string laterally across the fret.
Dilruba is an instrument of the bowed variety. Its origin is relatively new to the North Indian music system. It was specifically designed for women to play and is half sitar and half sarangi in design.
