Opened in August 2021, the restaurant-slash-bar serves updated takes on Indian fare, and takes its name from desi daru, a moonshine-style beverage made from molasses. The principals here are Chef Suresh Sundas and Dante Datta, both of whom have been involved in the DC dining scene for over a decade (they're joined by silent partner Calvin Kim).
Daru is a restaurant concept influenced and inspired by the cuisine, culture, and history of India. We specialize in classic and Indian-ish food and cocktails. Enjoy our year round heated and enclosed patio dining.

Daru is the capital of the Western Province of Papua New Guinea [2] and a former Catholic bishopric. Daru town falls under the jurisdiction of Daru Urban LLG.
The menu is an equal mix of vegetarian and meat dishes, making Daru a great option for mixed-diet groups. This tiny restaurant gives a homey refuge to the eastern edge of H Street, and the dining room is full most every night.
