This oath was taken by Osborn's and Cox's companies in October 1777. The names of those Upper New River men known to have subscribed to it are annexed in appendix I. Some of the subscribers to this oath actually lived on the North Carolina side of 36ø30', however it was much easier to reach Osborn's Fort than Wilkes County's Fort Defiance.
