In my Forester Hybrid it just defaults to EV mode--a bit different but essentially the same function when stopped. Subaru sees the Auto Start Stop as an environmental plus (very Subaru let's face it) with the added benefit of saving some gas for the car owner too. I've had this feature in some premium brands and it never bothered me to be honest.
