One of the most memorable of those hit-the-charts-and-then-disappeared-forever groups has got to be Tatu - or t.A.T.u., officially - with their UK no. one hit, All The Things She Said.

All The Things She Said's Tatu: where is the band in 2025?

After releasing their first record, 200 Po Vstrechnoy, in Russia in 2001, t.A.T.u. hit the English speaking world with 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane in December of 2002. A few months before, the band had dropped “All The Things She Said,” alongside its instantly controversial video.

They had one of the biggest hits of 2002 – but 20 years later, Russian pop duo t.A.T.u’s lives couldn’t be more different. The All The Things She Said singers – red-headed Lena Katina and brunette Julia Volkova, both 37 – went their separate ways in 2011 following a string of albums.

After completing the duo, the producers decided on the name "Тату" (Tatu). Sounding like the English word "tattoo", it is also a shortened version of the Russian phrase " Та любит ту " (ta lyubit tu), meaning "This [girl] loves that [girl]".

Pro-Putin MP Tatiana Butskaya has called for a complete ban on t.A.T.u. content, arguing the group’s image encouraged same-sex relationships, per The Sun. “Never in my life in our childhood did it occur to me that a girl could be with a girl, until t.A.T.u popped up,” she said.
