Pratap Singh I (18 May 1540 – 19 January 1597), popularly known as Maharana Pratap (IPA: [məɦaːˈɾaːɳaː pɾəˈtaːp] ⓘ), was king of the Kingdom of Mewar, in north-western India in the present-day state of Rajasthan, from 1572 until his death in 1597.

Maharana Pratap was a renowned Rajput warrior and a king of Mewar, Rajasthan, in north-western India. He is known for his bravery and incessant struggle against the mighty Mughal ruler Akbar.

Born in 1540 in Kumbhalgarh, Maharana Pratap was the 13th ruler of Mewar from the Sisodia dynasty of Rajputs. At a time when many kings were surrendering to the Mughal Empire, he stood alone, defiant—refusing to bow to Emperor Akbar, despite pressure, exile, and years of struggle.
