I run medium rods, max tension on the jawjacker, and 10 lb braid with various size jigs for trout, perch, walleye, and burbot. The biggest game changer for me with missed strikes was allowing them to have some room to take the jig before the jacker goes off.

a similar paste can be made from trout feed pellets. (this would work great on stocked trout who are used to it!) simply get some sinking trout pellets, add a little boiling water, cover for a while and mix it up, hey presto-cheap bait.

Brook trout in vivian lake Vivian has brook trout and rainbows- no kokanee. You could try a nearby Ness lake which also has brook trout, rainbows, and kokanee. Or could try other lakes which may have better chances of catching brook trout such as gravel pit, hush, eskers park lakes, or cobb just to name a few..
