U Tube Manometer

A manometer operates on the principle that pressure changes on a liquid will cause it to rise or fall in a transparent tube. This liquid movement reflects the difference between the applied unknown pressure and a known reference pressure.

What is a Manometer? The manometer is a device used to measure pressure at a point in a fluid by balancing the column of fluid with the same or another fluid. It is commonly known as a U-shaped tube that is filled with liquid, gas, steam, etc.

However, unless otherwise qualified, the term “manometer” most often refers specifically to a U-shaped tube partly filled with fluid. You can easily build this type of manometer as part of a laboratory experiment to demonstrate the effect of air pressure on a liquid column.

A manometer is a scientific instrument or gauge that measures pressure. A simple manometer can be built by partially filling a clear plastic tube with a colored liquid to allow the fluid level to be easily observed. The tube is then bent into a U-shape and fixed in an upright position.
