This website (Remington Model 31 - Wikipedia) indicates the model 31 was made from 1931 to 1949. Another (Remington Manufacture Dates) says a two letter code on the barrel reveals the year of manufacture. My barrel is stamped (twice) ZZ, near the receiver, which that chart shows as being made in 1953 (and that Z was used in 1931).
