Pratham’s work extends from programs for early and elementary years to initiatives for girls and women, and youth skilling. We reach 7 million children and youth in a typical year through a combination of efforts: working directly with children and youth in communities, as well as through collaborations with state and district-level governments.
About Us Introduction Pratham is an innovative learning organization created to improve the quality of education in India. As one of the largest non-governmental organizations in the country, Pratham focuses on high-quality, low-cost, and replicable interventions to address gaps in the education system.
Pratham’s story evolved from the idea of a tripartite societal mission uniting government, businesses, and civil societies or individuals to solve a complex issue on a massive scale. The idea was born in Unicef’s Mumbai (then Bombay) office with the belief that if these three groups work together to solve the problems of the education sector, the model could be replicated anywhere in India.
What does Pratham do? Pratham was established to target problems with pre-primary and primary education in India.
