Unlike other members of the family Salamandridae, newts are semiaquatic, alternating between aquatic and terrestrial habitats. Not all aquatic salamanders are considered newts, however. More than 100 known species of newts are found in North America, Europe, North Africa and Asia.
Newt Newts are a species of aquatic amphibians, belonging to the family of Salamndriedae and have been classified into the subfamily of Pleurodelinae. They undergo three stages of metamorphosis during their life span and resemble to lizards in shape and size.
