Demand for Cavolo Nero is up by more than 30 per cent in last year and purple broccoli is up by 10 per cent over the same period. Tesco said the new trend is prompting UK vegetable growers to plant more of the colourful varieties to meet the growing demand, with AH Worth starting to grow rare red kale.
Tesco Finest Red Kale, available in 275 Tesco stores nationwide and online from 15 December, will sit alongside AH Worth’s existing green kale and cavolo nero ranges. Grown in Lincolnshire, the new kale has a striking purple-red leaf and slightly sweeter flavour, with versatility across a wide range of cooked dishes.
