Koi is actually a chinese word borrowed from the Japanese. Japanese have loads and loads of words borrowed from the chinese, including kanji. The correct word for it is actually Nishikigoi, or more general word for it is Kokugyo meaning National Fish, which is the nishikigoi or brocaded carp. I’ve had this koi for about a month now and for somewhat reason she likes to lay on the bottom with clamped fins. She has an appetite and has other pond mates who act completely normal. Water parameters are ALL good, I always check them. At first I thought this behavior was completely normal but it seems like the clamped fins are not a good sign. It’s a 2000 gallon pond.
For Koi Pond application....use the Mesh socks, not the Felt socks. The Felt socks clog waaaaay to quick, even if used on prior filtered water....if you decide to use Felt Filer socks...make sure that water is very well prefiltered, and check them often to make sure they are not going to overflow.
