By " observing " I'm referring to taking as much time as one needs to eek out every last bit of structure, detail, etc. Observing is a time intensive, attention to details, visual approach. An observer might take a couple of hours meticulously studying a single object -- a planet, a lunar feature, a nebula, a galaxy, or whatever.
