Hi, Purchased this Baltic Amber from Lithuania. Tried the black light test and the very clear amber turns opaque cream like color. Please see pics. Is this possibly fake? Thanks!

Essentially, the same processes are used today for much of the so-called “amber” jewellery sold cheaply in gift shops (although it is contrary to International Amber Association rules to call it amber), often with the added refinement of dyes to improve or change the colour. I have a few pieces of Burmese Amber such as this one. The surface is not as translucent as others. It looks like it could do with a further polish. How do I go about doing that?

Amber isn't nearly as rare as some may think and many real specimens with insects are found and sold across the world. (More than 1% are genuine). More than 1% are genuine? Are more than 98% inauthentic? This is a sincere question. I would have assumed “1%” was a typo, but my knowledge of amber is too limited to make assumptions.
